Thought it gave a good indication of the scale of the problem and of what we have got to do once this present mess has gone away
A balanced view over all with some uncomfortable truths for a few ?

The Dutch look after them selves whilst we try to police the world.
we are even hiring some of their pumps

A quick Google search indicates a fair chunk of their GDP is spent on keeping water where it is wanted.
It would need an impressive increase in our spending to match it.

That's what sprang to mind for me last night watching it. If the Dutch can do it why are we making such a big deal about it.
Because after the 53 floods it concentrated their minds & they spent lots of Guilders to fix it. As they carried out those works they "Learned from It". Then exported that knowledge to bring funds back into Holland.

We will now be short skilled trades to fix these flooded buildings

The Dutch reclamation programme might cost a high proportion of GDP but in doing so has substantially increased the over all size of Holland including fertile agricultural lands

Things could be worse .......

The people who find them beautful tend to wear green garments.. Her & myself think they are like some of the nastier stuff out of Star Wars. Quite a few around here and increasing. Frankly, I think the UK is bonkers in it's plans on windfarms. Tears to come, except for the few coining it.

At least 10% of our energy is supplied by wind power, virtually as much as fission but with a tad less legacy clean up and I have two one owner coal/oil power stations outside my front window, let me know when you like me to arrange delivery to your part of the world.:).
Some of us at the sharp end will take a hundred whooshy windmills keeping you warm, over a filthy chimney any day.

a programme on the radio yesterday stated that due to emissions on modern diesels the particulates are much smaller & are now able to get into the blood stream as they are so small.
An own goal i reckon

Will guarantee most anti windmillites will not a have a oil or coal station within miles of their location.
Just try to site a power station/sewage plant/incinerator/ wastetip/prison or reservoir :) anywhere near them and watch the petitions fly.
