And whilst they are at it, they could dredge the North Channel to 13.6m and cut out the dog leg at the Bramble.
Good Lord, will nobody think of the seahorses?

Makes a lot of sense to me. The Southampton side gets far too crowded and they still use the rail line in for cars, there is a lot that comes in by road. Also if the shifted some of the frieght to Marchwood there would be more space for cruise liners, which do have the advantage of bringing tourist money into the city.
I seem to recall that part of the justification for the Totton bypass, direct to the M27 was to allow for more freight to be carried to the then, on the cards, Marchwood development. ABP got blocked but the road was still built. It wouldn't take that much to duel it if and when necessary.
The only real issue that I see is air pollution. I have heard it suggested that the ships version of marina shore power would cut it down quite a lot.
.... which also serves the oil refinery.
Beyond Marchwood it becomes single track (single pair of tracks for the pedants) I believe.
?
Where did that come from?
Pete
It came from sixty years of watching nature being destroyed in the Southampton region to the point where human stupidity & selfishness now threatens the whole eco system/Planet.
So building on two fields next door to the existing docks is going to turn my home into a "cesspit"?
I'm quite glad I don't share your quivering hatred of, well, pretty much everything.

Not to worry though Nature will soon be getting it's own back.
