just pondering and noodling.... how possible/impossible/expensive is it to get a permanent mooring for a 34’ long keel boat in S. Devon sort of Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth type of thing? Draught is 5’8”

I don’t mind sitting in a bit of soft mud for some of the time and I’d prefer swinging to being on a pontoon. But is this a stupid idea? Are all the moorings taken, with long waiting lists? I’d rather avoid Plymouth if possible though I guess there is more availability there.

Would you consider a mooring further up the Tamar? Moorings available at Cargreen and Weir Quay.

Salcombe: Winters Marine at Lincombe boatyard have mid river pontoon moorings. Sometimes have a waiting list but I doubt much of one right now. We kept our boat there for a few years, nice place but expect prices near marina level.

Yeowards have fore and aft trots in Southpool Creek.

Deep water swinging moorings are all run by the Salcombe Harbour Authority. No entry to long waiting list unless a South Hams council tax payer.

Dartmouth might be worth a try, no residence qualification but I think you need to appoint a local as custodian. Probably a long waiting list for a suitable mooring, but depends on what you require.

Well I'm investigating Cargreen or Torpoint for our "new" craft so might well be interested - We hope to get sorted to move it there late August or early September depending on how long we take to get from Chichester

Wouldn't it be worth your joining the club/s, so as to get info, in with the locals - to an extent - and info re moorings, possibly club access to one / some , as well as local knowledge of the area ?

No you are absolutely right and that is something I will hopefully be doing in the near future as on the dartmouth yacht club am looking at
