Did anyone else on here use Devon Hardwoods for decent timber pre-pandemic? Regrettably covid has led them to shut their retail operations so I’m now stuck for a supplier of decent quality hardwoods in Devon. Any suggestions for decent oak, ash, elm and suchlike supplier local to Devon? I can’t deal with rough sawn planks, I really need planed boards. TIA. Rob

If it's anything like the situation near Cambridge, few hardwood suppliers will provide machines wood. My local outfit only supplies rough sawn timber - you have to plane it yourself.
Which really means buying a decent planer/thicknesser which I'm not keen to do.

Sorry to hear of Devon Hardwoods. We used them a lot when rebuilding our cottage in the Blackdown Hills.
They’re still very much doing their trade business, it’s just the “Craft Shop” as they called it which they’ve shut down. It was a Pandora’s box of lovely quality hardwood in manageable quantities which could be browsed and bought at leisure. If a larger quantity is needed I’m sure they’d be very willing to help!
