this is probably an HLB question, but having done the usual,I havent done Exe,Charlestown,Mevagissey,Gorran Haven, and much west of Helford.
What am I missing out on , assuming the places are weather accessible when I am there.
Or do I head for Trebeurden and some moules?

Not sure I'd go west of Helford, less you had plans for the Scilly Isles. Which is a must if you possibly can.

Forget the Ex and go to Teignmouth. The enterance is much easier than the books say and you can get in at near low water. Just dont go with inshore winds.

For the rest, they are perhaps best done as lunch stops. Charles Town is only available at around H water, though you can anchor outside. Mevagissey, you can spend the night at, if you can find room on the wall, without blocking the ferry.

Mostly, we would spend a few days at Falmouth and up the river, you can spend days up there. Even go to Truro if your feeling adventurous, but dont stay long.

So when you've done Falmouth, go to either or maybe both Charles town and Mevagissey. Then end up at the Helford. They are all quite close together.

A regular trip for us, would be. Plymouth to Looe, for lunch, or a beer, either anchor in the bay or go in the harbour. Round the corner to Polpero for a beer, then Fowey for the night. The lots only 20 miles. Next day to Falmouth, another 20 miles, so take the scenic route.

If you fancy the Scillies, get down to Newlyn and fuel up. Then just 35 miles to Scillies.

Have I missed anything??

We normally meander down to Falmouth, and use that a a base, as my dinghy sailing was there...some decades ago!
Pooped into Looe, but didnt actually stop, but havent looked at Polperro.
Agree some of them seem more lunchtime stops than more, and Teignmouth always risks slipping into a bit more than lunch ;)
Actually, although we have been holed up in Plymouth before, can you tell me what to do there. I got lost finding somewhere to eat, never mind boat.

Looe is quite nice and good for lunch, mainly anchor off the beach and dinghy in. Or if the tide is in, there is a visitors mooring on the left, up the harbour.

Polperro has/had three buoys in the enterance, or some times I managed to moor on the end of a bit of a jetty that sticks out.

Dont go into the harbour, I did and had to back out.:)

Great little place for a beer and a wander about.

Plymouth. Go to Yacht Haven or Sutton Lock. Yacht Haven, walk to Turnchaple, Two good pubs, the Boringdon used to be excelent, basic food, but very good. The other a bit posher. Or turn right out of the marina and catch the ferry to the Barbican.

Queen Annes Battery is ok, except less things have changed, they close the foot path over the lock at nine pm, so it's a bit of a walk round.

Sutton lock is in the Barbican, loads of restraunts there. Captain Jaspers is good fun for bacon butties and stuff, that is just about in the centre of the Barbican. Loads of resteraunts with tables in the road.

Or if you ask for the Plymouth gin museum/ pub. There is/was, a great Chinees on the right, just before. It's not far.

Suppose you know about the Yelm??, just before Plymouth. Three pubs. Or Cawsands, just insides Plym harbour. Nice little stop, or overnight, if there are no Easterlys.

Course you could just go up the Tamar.

near Falmouth, Mylor was nice

when going to Newlyn, go along Penzance, much nicer

Yes agree, Scillies defo worth the efford !

(all imho)

Yes Penzance is possibly nicer, but since the pontoons were put in at Newlyn, there is no messing about with locks and tides. It used to be the cheapest for fuel on the south coast, no idea about now. There is a bit of Newlyn and Penzants in this little film.

It's each to there own, but at least with Newlyn, it's straight in and back out in the morning..

Scilly Isles. The jewel in the crown.

Surely not much of a place to visit is it? I'm told it's full of arti-farty hippies, scruffy surfers and expensive fish and chip shops!!

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it:rolleyes:

No he's having us on, there's no north coast in Devon :(

It's the bit between the land and the sky - like the one in Torquay:o

Nowhere for 'em to go here in N. Devon, no marinas, all drying, so they wouldn't like it, (thank f**k!) Don't know of any "arty farty's or whatever though, we are all very plain folks around here, and we wouldn't be at all impressed with posers and floating bungalows!:p:D:D

Ah but there's a few places in N Somerset. A mate of mine almost bought Watermouth Cove a good few years ago, still regrets not doing so to this day! He used to live in Watchet and we had a number of booze cruises from there on a local angling boat before the marina was built. Also a good few nights wandering around the numerous Watchet pubs. Happy days!

Indeed so, I like Watchet too, I can take or leave Watermouth, mind you I liked Watchet better when there was no marina. I prefer natural harbours meself, I try very hard to avoid marinas if at all possible.
