Hi!

I´m doing my Master thesis at Nimbus boats where I am to develop a concept for an electric day boat.

Right now I´m doing a customer study and would like you to answer my survey to identify how day boats are used, and the interest in electric boats.

Thankful for all your answers! :)

Here is the link to the survey.
Customer study for an electric day boat

Would also be interesting to hear your general thoughts about electric boats and start an electric boat conversation.

there was a long thread on here recently all about electric boats and everyones views.

In essence few like the idea. If you want to go short distances slowly and can then accept the charge time so be it - but the boats are not cheaper than their diesel counterparts - likely more expensive - and fuel is not a significant cost in terms of boat ownership ( mooring being far far bigger).

I have answered but you can't leave the "if any" questions blank.

q9 is a leading question. I want to get places fast then have fun.

I do wish that survey setters would spend more time understanding the demographic and economic reach of their target audience.

In your intro "comfortable and economical" are highly subjective. What is acceptable to a fit 30 year-old is not sustainable boating to a child or a senior citizen, and someone on a small pension will have a different view from a banker on big bonuses for the meaning of "economical"

I think you have not trialled your questionnaire rigorously.

Q5 - a maximum size of 32ft. !

Q9 is highly prescriptive. Only two choices and yet Q10 offers 7 usages. (I will pass over the lack of a median quantitative column)

Q11 omits any reference to multi-berth mobos used as "day" boats, as usage format which is really quite high. And for a UK audience, what is a sloep/snipa ?

Q16. I would like to challenge your view about electric boats being less environmentally damaging in their construction process as well as their usage. Electric cars have low rolling resistance and hence (relatively) low power demands. Boats need to push tonnes of water out of their way every moment, which is why there are comments in these forums about "how many litres per mile does your boat do ?"

If this is a serious survey, you need to bring in much more information and be clearer about your objectives and the answers you want.

I complete a significant number of undergraduate and postgraduate questionnaires and will make the same comments as @sarabande.

I have a couple of points:
  1. What is a wet bar?

  2. The brand of the boat has a high environmental profile. What does this actually mean?
You do need to look at the current market regarding length of vessel 32 foot is seen as tiny these days.

32 foot is still a reasonable length for a day boat.

Maybe Wet bar is an American term, it is basically a sink with a fridge and possibly a grill.
And for the other question I would say that for example the brand has an image of being environmental friendly.
