Would anyone have any idea of fuel burn on a 40ft sports boat on outdrives with these engines or any other comments about these engines would be much appreciated. I know they are a bit thirsty I used to drive a lorry with just one of these in and that was bad enough !! But how bad ? - many thanks TIm

Never heard about a 2-stroke Detroit Diesel connected to outdrives (sterndrive) ... too much torque...so assume this is the infamous GM V8 four stroke which has a mixed (mostly negative) reputation and once again mostly due to poor third party marinising parts. Came in 6.2 & 6.5L (believe the 330 to be a 6.5L), both designed for light trucks.

Wiki entry here ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Diesel_V8_engine

Never made it big in the marine market as durability was not "up there" with the reputation from the old style 2-strokes.....

Tell us more about boat/drive ... single/double installation .... drive manufacturer and model and I am sure we can give you more information....

If a 2-stroke (which is highly unlikely) ....and in 330 Hp range, there are several engine configurations that this could be...
