The facilities at this marina are been run into the ground .no more fuel,no lift service ,What about berthholders plans to lift boats out for winter ?

Actions due to developers desire to rid the marina of boats and chandlery + workshop to make way for devopment!

Anyboby got an opinion?

This has been on the cards for a few years now. Dergs 300 berth marina used to be the top marina on the Shannon, but now seems quite run down. I have a number of friends with boats in there. I was not aware the diesel pump was off, it was working a few weeks ago, and they were doing lifts too, but pricey. The water was off a few weeks ago due to a local supply problem in the Ballina area. I understand the intention is to develop the land at the southern end of the marina closest to the hotel, but that planners are likely to demand the bulk of the marina be retained as a critical amenity. IMHO there is as much chance of them getting planning permision to develop the northern area, as there is that one day scientists will discover a brain in Bush's head. It is a sad state of affairs. It may end up with a reduced no of berths, many being sold with the new appartments. So there could be upto 100 existing berth holders looking for a berth up the north shannon as Derg has no capacity.

Where did you hear they wouldn't be doing winter storage this winter?

As to my opinion, well Ballina has been destroyed by poorly designed development, and this has the potential to be another disaster. I'm not anti development, just anti bad design. Coolbawn quay up the lake IMHO is a wonderful development, beautifully designed, natural and rustic looking. Kincora harbour opposite Derg is another example of good marina development, beautifully designed, has charm, chacter, looks natural and very well screened and landscaped. A redeveloped Derg marina with a balance of amenity, marina and limited property could look quite well, but I fear not.

That's one of the problems with the proposals for a marina at Greystones, too much property too close to the water, and not enough marina facilities (ie marina just excuse, not main purpose).

Are you a berth holder there? What about Inniscealtra YC, or Derg YC as possible alternatives.

As you will probably agree with me this proposed development is typical of the greed of "modern " Ireland and the employment of the "Brown Envelope" or in this case the "Cement Bag"I agree with you Ballina has been destroyed already ! Development has been much more planned on the Clare side .
As far as i know winter storage will still be available ,but how are boatholders going to take their boats out of the water ?,the crane is to be sold and other assets are been stipped , the slip way is too short to use a trailer !Unless bertholders form an action group (employ and pay for a mobile crane themselves )!Would your friends be interested? You mention Inniscealtra and Derg YC's can you get a mooring by joining these clubs ? What are your friends going to do longterm?Perhaps i could speak with them directly?

Hi
Have you spoken to your friends about the present situation of Derg Marina ?
Have you heard of any further developments?
