Hi Forumites,

Anyone been through Foulgers recently? I was wondering if the London array works has caused any silting or change to the channel from last year. I plan to go through early June on my way from the Orwell to Brittany. Also what's the callsign of the guard vessel please?

Mary Ann 1 at the moment - I haven't heard anything about depths there this year. The general experience with the Monopoles is that tidal scouring occurs around each base and the material scoured is dumped 'nearby'. We can be certain that with the first sub station there, there is a lot of work traffic around especially as they are laying array cables between monopoles. The third main cable is expected to arrive around the third week of June if it remains on schedule. Fisherman's will be closed when it passes by. Expect to be discouraged from using Foulger's. Weekly updates on the Notices to Mariners pages on my website.

Bearing mind all these various wind turbine work issues - going from the Deben to Ramsgate, is there any reason to not just hang it all and go outside everything, leave the lot to starboard? It avoids a lot of gap threading and makes life a fair bit easier. I can't see it adding more than maybe five miles but does it mean you can't play the tides as effectively?

We have just arrived in Ramsgate from Shotley.
We came over sunk sands by Barrow No. 2 we found a minimum depth of 3.9m at about low water (10:40 1.1m predicted).

We called up Mary Ann 1 and said that we intended to go though Foulger's Gat.
They said that there where some anchor buoy at the north end and they were cable laying of the the east of the Gat and that they could not stop us from going though.
we just had to keep at least 50m from the wing things and 500m from any work boats.
So though we went!

We did not see any depth less than 4m.
