I have a NASA depth sounder, which has never really worked properly. The tube in which the sensor is housed is supposed to be oil filled, but seems to leak.

Would the sensor still work if fixed to the hull with sealant - eg Sikaflex?

Yes you can bond it to the hull, just make sure that you clean the area first and that there are no bubbles in the sealant. If your not sure you could always use a clear silicon sealant to try it out .If you dont like the result you can just peel it off and start again.Silkaflex mastic is hard to remove.
I did mine with no-nails, its less runny that the others and sets rock hard.

Any ideas where you buy ultrasound jelly. Maybe my wife could pretend to be pregnant and I could nick a handful ( of jelly) while the nurse wasn't looking. Seriously though, is in an over the counter chemist shop item?

You can order it at your local pharmacist. A 250ml tube of CamCare Ultrasound Gel is what you need. Alternatively you can order it on-line at www.westons.com - look for Reference #CAM1034D. I got mine through Westons - they seemed to pretty efficient. I have no connection other than as a once off customer.
