Depth transducer compatiblity

Help - I'm supposed to be setting off for Scotland in 3 days and my whole NKE Topline system has packed in. I only feel the need for a depth sounder so does anyone know if the thru hull (removable) transducer is compatible with any other available reader (NASA ? Clipper?) or conversely is there a transducer that will sit in the existing thru hull fitting

NKE have told me that the transducer is 200 khz

Quite a few of the in hull transducers are interchangeable.If you are already afloat you can bond a transducer to the inside of the hull or use an oil coupling to get an effective depth sounder.

most depth sounders use Airmar transducers. Check out the site and see if your machine is listed.

Fishfinder

If you have a reasonably flat part of the hull, aft maybe, a fishfinder transducer may be bonded with something like Araldite straight to clean grp, no need for a hole in the hull.

As I've just discovered, fishfinders give a lot of info and what's more they're considerably ceaper than depth sounders, bizzarely - suppose the numbers sold to fishermen is the key.

I just bought a Garmin 100 for £93.00 from Force 4 which seems a good deal; no connection, and yet to wire & nail the thing to the boat...

The information is basically the same its just interpreted into a pretty picture. Its just mathematics. Pocket calculator is about $5, just imagine how cheap that fishfinder would be if it had the same size market as a calculator or mobile phone.

I realise that; so paying £125 + for a much less pretty picture, in fact just a few digits, compared to in this case £93.00 ( there are some cheaper ) with pretty picture seems the proverbial no-brainer.

Thanks folks, for information I struggled to get any information on a UK dealer for NKE, but All Gadgets Marine were particularly helpful and current state of play is that I've got a NASA depth sounder kit coming (the post about fishfinders came thru just too late!) and an ST60 - I'm hoping to connect the existing transducer to the ST60, if successful AGM have said I can send the NASA back. God willing and a fair wind should be heading up to Scotland on Friday. Thanks again.
