My ST40 depth instrument failed as the cable close to the transmitter was damaged due to vibration against the through hull transducer plastic casing edge

Raymarine said replace but admitted i could try to rejoin cable and re-insulate using heat shrink but was not successful due to restricted space and closeness to transducer .

I don't want to lift out next year just to replace a through hull transducer so am looking for an alternative to put in with out penetrating hull . I have thought of a transom mount but understand this could be affected by turbulence .
Also fish finder but where to mount ?

Any one gone down this route before ?

what did you do and was it successful ?

I have two transducers mounted inside my GRP hull - one is mounted in an oil bath and the other epoxied directly onto the hull. Both work fine.

Log transducers are designed to pop out for cleaning while in the water, replaced with a plastic dummy transducer as a bung. Do depth ones not do the same? If you can get a matching replacement (which ought to be possible for a well-known brand) then just swap it over.

If you have a solid GRP hull you can certainly fit a new one in an oil bath (that's what I have, and why I'm not certain about the popping out) but it seems like a lot of bother compared to the above.
