Depth Gauge stuck reading "Calibrating"

I'll check the angle (I assume it was factory fitted) but suspect that even if it was mounted at the wrong angle it would find something solid to get a reading from, even if totally inaccurate. When I'm there next I'll check the connection to the tri-data, the angle and the glycol level. 71ml is pretty precise though so I'll have to get a syringe! Note that the excess cable for the depth sounder and the log have been looped and cable tied in place and one of them has a load of insulating tape on it so it could be a bad connection there.

As the sender has no moving parts, do they ever fail?

Agreed re the angle it would show something .Yes its accurate so I used a syringe also. Don't think the looped cable and ties should be an issue but the insulation tape sounds a bit suspect- unless its a damaged cable, I cant see the need for it- that could be the problem . Sounders do fail mine did hence the P79 because I wanted a quick fix without haul out. I have also the B60 through hull which is very reliable so always have a back up.

JtB did post a reply few days ago but here is link to other thread for issue I had : http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?484189-Tridata-depth-sonar

I attach a pic for you re connections:

Slide1.JPG

Red arrows show :
- where the join in connection is to sonar unit
- where the roll of wire you have found is tucked away in is in my floor
- the transducer head out of circular base

The yellow arrow is the speed log

Thus you can remove afloat without sinking - bit different to speed log though I haven't done that one as all working. Be very gentle/carefully unscrewing/twisting transducer unit; only needs about 3 degree movement and then lift up carefully. Will then avoid what someone did to mine!

Hope this helps

Thanks - interesting, I didn't see a connector. Will do some more poking around at the weekend.

the P79 is fixed in the hull and not though the hull. When you take it out ( unscrew and lift) make sure that the oily medium( propylene glycol antifreeze is recommended) which sits in the bottom of the housing stuck to your hull, needs to be covering the downward face of the sender.

He shoots he scores!

Refilling with 71mm of glycol did the trick. Many thanks everyone.

Hi folks can you help ?
I also have st50 which has ben working ok speed depth and temperature

now the unit reads SET at the top and CoDE at the bottom

Nothing in the annual shows these two notifications

I can push depth and speed and get a flashing four dash display which i can use the other buttons to enter numbers into
i think there was a code which i enter but it reverts back to SET and CoDE again
have tried disconnecting power and as you can imagine pushing eery combination I can think of
has anybody had this before can you help

Unit is connected with e 80 which has now also lost depth

the other two units connected in serial wind tacking angle and course deviation are showing a mixture of readings which suggest that the tridatat repeater was set as a master leaving them now with no input on code lock

argh
in Dartmouth travelling west and hoping to sound in on some cornish creeks but lesss than confident with lead line
all suggestions welcome
thanks

That's an antitheft feature , you could program the unit to require a 4 digit code either on power up, or to obtain the code from another raymarine unit elsewhere on the network.

Looks like yours has either lost contact with the 'master' unit or has been powered down and now needs the code entering.

It's all in the manual, but if you don't know the code I think you're stuffed.
