Tried out depth setting alarm (see previous post) on my depth finder over the weekend during a trip in Poole Harbour. Both alarm and trip went well so I'm still pleased and thanks for the help.

In my previous thread 'wakeup' suggested that there could be an option for changing the depth setting from ft to metres. When I tried his suggestion of holding down the alarm setting switch when turning on the depth finder, intriguingly a M as well as a ft appeared on the display and it then simply started the alarm setting. No amount of playing with switch combinations appeared to have any affect.

Unfortunately 'wakeup' has a 2000 model compared to my 1997 and clearly he has other options on his depth finder - lucky ********

Can anyone help with advice or a manual (for boat or depth finder)?

Many thanks

Jon Bailey.

another thought

my 2001 (american)guage still has fathoms as an option......could the display of ft and m be an attempt to show "fathoms" as the units on an lcd display without the right letters? .You may have inadvertantly switched it to fathoms, and in much of poole a setting of even 1 fathom would sound the alarm constantly.

Sorry for the confusion, but everything is OK with the gauge and it works fine in ft. It is just trying to change from ft to M that is giving me the problem.

What I was trying to explain was that if the alarm switch is pressed when the depth finder is switched on, the finder appears to do a 'reset' and it is at this stage that the M as well as ft appear on the LCD. After this 'reset' everything appears to work normally in ft.

Despite looking carefully I can see no makers name and the depth gauge cannot be removed because it appears to be glued into place. I have searched on the web but cannot find any depth finder that do not have a set button as part of the gauge. Maxumboatparts was also not helpful.

Failing all else I'll try Deva Marine or one of the other Maxum dealers.
