Does anyone happen to know how much water there is at chart datum up at the Folly Inn and what the bottom's like? Hoping to get up there some time next week but without charts to hand do not know whether I'll have problems at low water with a fin keel.

Fairly soft mud. I draw 1.6 and just about touch on the Folly pontoon at low water on, or around, springs. We watched a boat drawing 2m ground just off the main river pontoon, opposite Folly, one hour before low water on Bank Holiday Sunday afternoon. If you have your tables handy you should be able to work it out.

Sorry if it's not a lot of help.

Hi I can confirm that -we draw 1.5metres and can just get up to the pontoon
at low springs without touching the bottom.
StugeronSteve-we saw the racing boat stuck as well-quite amusing.
What is your boat name? Were you on the Folly side or the other side?

"Two J's III" We were midle boat in a raft of three, on the north end of the Folly (landing) pontoon. Why we were afforded such an honour I have no idea.

Can anyone confirm that there is a scrubbing post at the Folly and if so how do you arrange to use it.

From the Cowes website:

"A scrubbing berth, capable of taking vessels up to 10.67m L.O.A. and 1.83m draft on spring tides, can be booked on application to the Medina Mariners Association.
Tel: (01983) 866667. Charles Spelling"

Very precise measurements; what if you draw 1.84? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

We draw 1.8m and we have run aground on the way up the river after the power station at about +- 1 hour LW Springs
The bottom where we grounded was soft mud and the deepest water on the approach is close to the pontoons on the west side. In the centre channel there is much less water
