Denso

No but ' Nippon Denso ' is a well known make of coils for Japanese motorbikes.

Our local motorbike shop had a rather slow Japanese assistant, so naturally he was known as Nippon Denso. :)

Denzo is grease-impregnated cloth tape, usually found on industrial gas or hydraulic fittings as a means of preventing corrosion.
It can have its uses on a boat- I've seen it used on the top of a wheelhouse to seal cable entries, although conventional sealant would be less messy.
I've used it with some success to patch holes in a corrugated iron roof. It's very cheap and saves opening a tube of sealant for a minor job. Main disadvantage is that in warm weather it gets very soft and sticky.

Is this the stuff that fishermen wrap liberally round the joints in their hydraulics? And that brushing past leads to ruined clothes?

Temporary repairs to gas leaks and wrapping pipe joints to stop corrosion. It can dry out after a longish period so we used to wrap a plastic tape over the top to reduce this. If to cold the tape won't apply well and in some ways the same when to hot !

The motor of my windlass is in the chain locker, where it is regularly splashed with seawater. After several paint applications failed to stop it rusting I wrapped the motor in Denso tape with polythene sheet over it to protect against its stickiness. After something like five years when last inspected the motor was pristine.

Same when I was in the UK, fishing and later on surveying. Mostly for hydraulics on deck and yes a pain when it was sticky but saved a lot of aggro when having to undo something.

Not really noticed an equivalent here but never needed to look.

You can use it to wrap the inboard part of the prop shaft on your submarine, it stops corrosion of the shaft from the water coming through the stern seal (water lubricated seal).

I use it commercially to cover any galvanised connectors on external intakes, motor junction boxes and exterior marshalling boxes, as required. Bloody brilliant but good luck getting it off. Acetone seems to clear the mess after successful removal.

I wouldn't want to see it on a pleasure boat!

I'm still at a loss for ways I might actually want to use it. Seems that the 'sticky stuff' is tenacious as hell.....

Does it trap squirrels?
Will it deter burglars?
How about fallen leaves?
What about 'hice mice'....?

Should I put it on eBay?

It's tape impregnated with petrolatum gel that contains a corrosion inhibitor. The gel is, essentially, unrefined Vaseline so is very hydrophobic and difficult to remove. It will skin over when exposed to air for a period but not harden. Meant to be used as a corrosion preventer on steel pipes, joints etc it has lots of uses but I can't think of any on my boat. Certainly wouldn't want the mess on board!
