Dell Quay Dory 13 - Engine recommendations?

My obsession with boats started in 1975 with a Dory 11. I had a 25hp Johnson. My friend had a Dory 13 with a 50hp Merc which I think was the maximum recommended. It used to scare me to death. Coincidentally I am looking for an old Dory for my kids to have some fun with (although probably more for me and my sense of nostalgia!)

Found some comments from owners in the US.. http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000141.html

Ive got a Johnson 50 on mine. My brother in law used to have it before me. When it was new he had a 40 on it, but it wasn't enough for the skiing he wanted to do, so he upped it to a 50hp. I've had her for 4 years now and she goes well, very well.

50HP is the max the boat is rated for I think.

Hi I've just bought a Dell Quay Dory 13 - I cant find any technical info on it and was wondering what Engine you would recommend?

<span style="color:blue"> The Dory 13 is a lovely craft but strictly speaking not for skiing as the weight of the skier causes the arse end to skid as they slalom. However just for a bit of fun its great but they will bang and crash in any kind of a small sea. Ideally the outboard can be 10hp - 40hp. 10 is adequate for river use a 40 giving around 30 knots flat out down hill. A few years back we had to get a fire pump up the river, I had that on plus 4 hefty Firemen, me and my dog. The Firemen were amazed at the carrying capacity</span>
