Dell quay dory 11 with 9.9 yamaha

My name is Mathieu. I comme from France and I have a dell quay dory 11 FT with a yamaha 9.9 2stroke of 1983
When I go fishing, I think my boat is not fast, 6.83mph with me and my friend fisher
Is what the owners of the same boat thinks about my motor with this body??

We had an 11ft Dell Quay with an 8hp Suzuki many years ago. Never measured speed but it wouldn't quite get on the plane. I would think it pushed along at 8 to 10 knots. I would say a 9.9hp should just about get your dory on the plane with one person and probably be around 10 to 12 knots. These are just my guesses based on old experiences, I have no measured data.

My propeller is a 8or9 1/4 x 9 3/4

So you think a 9.9 is too short for this hull??

i had a 13 dell quay dory with 15 hp 4 stroke yamaha---it would plane with 2 people aboard

A 9p hélice feels too coarse. Does the engine do ~5000rpm? If not then you could try 8p if you can borrow one (or eBay).

it probably needs 15 hp. I think you can convert 9.9 to 15 with new carburettor jets.

Btw, my brother (silverdee on here) has a 15hp 2T Yamaha (long) that I bought new in 2001. It's not being used so available to buy for anyone who needs one. In Manchester uk area. I doubt he will wish to sell just the carburettor though!
