Hello there can anyone recommend a good professional Delivery Skipper to help me bring my boat round from Plymouth to the Hamble in early May?

What I am looking for;
- RYA Yachtmaster Instructor
- Down to earth/good fun
- Help me check over the boat & modifications, make sure everything is safe & shipshape
- Shakedown sail near Plymouth
- Deliver yacht with me to Hamble early May, brushing up on my skills & helping me learn about my new boat on the way

Also, any ideas how much I should expect to pay?

Cheers,

Simon

What I am looking for;
- RYA Yachtmaster Instructor - tick
- Down to earth/good fun - tick
- Help me check over the boat & modifications, make sure everything is safe & shipshape - he's not a surveyor but has sailed many types.
- Shakedown sail near Plymouth - recently (Feb/March 2013) teaching in Plymouth
- Deliver yacht with me to Hamble early May, brushing up on my skills & helping me learn about my new boat on the way - has taught in the Solent in recent years

Also, any ideas how much I should expect to pay? - I've no idea - he taught me well and I've not needed to employ him.

Over the years I've done that role along that route multiple times, for free, for friends and even for forumeers. Well, not quite for free. There was the anticipation of a beer together afterwards.... or even during!!

It's not a task I'm quite so keen on these days. Peeps seem to expect a great deal more for their patronage these days - political correctitude, being nice to the unexpected SWMBO or brother-in-law-who-was-a-Cabin-Steward-with-WightLink-for-a-couple-of-seasons ( "You don't mind, do you!" ), second-guessing the weather right every time, dealing conclusively with awkward-bugger Assistant Harbourmasters, as well as being entertaining/good fun 24/7 and a natural skilled teacher. Oh, and smiling tolerantly when shiny new owner makes a pigs of everything asked of him - including the tea - and comprehensively ignores all guidance, direction and advice as a matter of principle.

These days, I charge myself out at 4 beer tokens per hour plus traveling. Double beer tokens after sunset.
