Anyone know of any delivery skippers who can combine a delivery from Poole to Hamble with some close quarter training.

It's for a Targa 40. Mendez Marine cant do the day I want, so need more options!!!

Try James Brooke at Lymington Yacht Haven, can highly recommend him from personal experience, he's a really lovely bloke and a superb instructor, we have used him a couple of times and do want to do more, he took my misses out in the Pearl along with a friends' wife that also wasn't confident helming their pretty sizeable boat and James did a superb job building their confidence and initial driving skills. He's also helped me and I'll be doing more with him over winter hopefully, same as you I want more lessons in close qtr stuff.

Hi Jonathan. I used Pete Green at Halcyon Yachts. Really nice guy and did a great job navigating through thick fog as soon as we left Brighton! Would not hesitate to recommend him and he'll probably video the trip for you. I would question what training you think you need though. You've been a fair way in the Monterey already and whilst the Targa is bigger and with twin engines will be different you at least know how to handle a boat and have experience berthing on the Hamble tide. Arguably the T40 will be easier. I moved from a 12ft dinghy on the Thames to our T38 and in my opinion there is no substitute for practicing and practicing until you understand how your boat reacts to the input you make.

Congratulations on the new boat and hope you enjoy her. Pete

Thanks Pete, much appreciated.

I've sorted someone now at short notice but I will keep the contact in mind.

Tuition wise I just want someone to do a load of close quarters with me. I want to be able to get the best out of the twin screws especially in pretty hairy situations with tide and wind pushing you into things at a rate. I guess the Hamble is the perfect place to practice that!!!

Saw Bubbers up for sale. Sorry to see her go, but perhaps you'll be back on a boat again at some point soon. Shame, as we could have gone for a few cruises next season!
