I need a bit of 4 mm. marine ply to repair a couple of hatches. Size 1200x600mm, although this could be cut to 650x600 and 550x600 to ease delivery. A firm in Bristol quoted a most reasonable £10.02 for the ply, however delivery to Mull was quoted at £90.00. Plus VAT! Ouch! Is this a record for a parcel that size?

PM sent.

The post office is decent enough to charge a flat rate, unfortunately for some reason some companies won't post stuff to less populated areas and insist on using overcharging couriers. I can't see why companies won't stick stuff in the post particularly if it gets them a sale.
For some reason some couriers seem to think large parts of the mainland are islands, not sure I would like to trust such ignorant people to deliver stuff!

The reason some of them wont use the post is becasue of its unpredictable nature.

Due to all the strikes we are currently getting about 1/2 our normal mail. Not sure what I'm missing, but the visa bill seems to come through all right!!

You certainly couldn't runa business based on a hit and miss delivery service. P***ed off customers, lost goods will all go to make a bad day!

Extra delivery charges

.
Extra delivery charges to our neck of the woods really irritate me, particularly when the company in question boasts a flat delivery rate and you only find there is a massive excess for Oban when you get ot the checkout. I invariably pull out of the deal at that point and go elsewhere.

It is particularly galling when the delivery is by standard Royal Mail service!

Hope you got your ply cheap. MacDougalls in Oban can get you marine ply, and I am sure they would stick a sheet on the ferry to Craignure for a few quid. If you are stuck PM me and I will see if I can get you a sheet in Oban and stick it on the ferry.

(Or you could sail down??)
