Delamination in Sealine S37

any body can give me a hint? i just bought a 1997 S37. i had an outboard before so i dont know anything about the 230 hp volvos and sterndrives. do i have to pay extra attn to anything? i had inox props on my last outboard-engined boat. is this a possibility in duo props and does it improve performance? any "inside info " available about boat in general? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
 
Inox props Sealine S37

I've got inox props on my S37 (yr 2002) . I believe there was a problem with the coating coming off with the flexing of the Al ones. With a stiffer prop I guess the performance will be better but whether you would notice it is another thing.
Also inox ones look prettier!

thanks for your reply! what was the difference in performance and consumption? also do you remember how much they cost, the make etc? if the performance didnt alterate considerably there is no point in buying them because of possibilities of destroying the sterndrive should they touch something hard. in same condition the alloys break but protect the rest of powertrain

I don't think you will notice any practical difference

also do you remember how much they cost, the make etc?

Mine are Volvo and fitted from new. There are cheaper ones around someone on this forum may be able to help

Although they are much stiffer than the Al ones they will still bend if you hit something. They offer no difference in protection to the powertrain and still include the internal rubber shock absorbers.

My advice, hold on to what you've got and maybe only change if you "ding' yours.

The problem was probably exacerbated with the advent of the larger hp KAD44's and 300's

Or more probably sealine made a hash of building the first few hulls and got the model a bad reputation. I know someone who owned one of the first S38 and it fell apart.
 
S37 - yes they had a couple that had some delamination problems, it was usually about 8 inches above the waterline, midships, but was mainly down to being driven far to hard by a couple of enthusistaic owners! You can break just about any boat if you try hard enough!!
