Deks Olje D1

I hate varnishing or come to that any other form of painting. It is rather like gardening don't like it don't do though I don't mind looking at other peoples handiwork.
But there are times when these things cannot avoided...such as the moment my wife decides our front door looks tatty and needs revarnishing.
The door in question is a rather fine hand made glazed door with lots of panels in an oak frame. The real problem is it sits in the sun for several hours each day...or it used to be in former times when the sun shone.
I was a chandler so I had a range of varnishes Blue Peter, Spinnaker, Epivanes... all looked beautiful when finished and all gave up after a summer and a winter ( we have lived here for over thirty years).
Finally I gave in to the inevitable and stripped the bloody door. Nitromorsed every single bar and strut. Neutralised the evil stripper with white spirit and on a sunny day started applying Deks Olje 1. Despite the door being 80% glass it took one and a half cans before every bit of wood was totally saturated.... that took and four or five hours including the time going into town to pick up the second can. Two days later I gave it two coats of Deks2.
Absolutely fantanstic finish.
Twelve years later I instructed the decorator ( by then I had found it easier to pay somebody more talented to do the jobs I don't like ) on sanding down, applying another four coats of Deks1 and then two of Deks 2. That was two years ago. Looks great.
I think Deks Olje is marvellous. I don't know about boats... bucket of water seems to sort out the GRP just fine.
