Not flying out till sunday night - hoping the whole deal has calmed down a bit by then. Still bracing myself for a long check in and wait - I hope they have warmed up the executive lounge for me...
Your lucky then, i'm sure things will have calmed down a bit, So why are you flying executive, and you 'staff' aren't??!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Not flying executive, but my Platinum AMEX card allows me to use the lounge for free (don't know why, but I'm not going to argue!).
Had a text from David. Other than his regular phone still aint working, Whitelighter is fueled, clean and they are setting off early tomorrow - 5.00am has been mentioned.
Apparently they are sleeping (or was that drinking?) today. Lazy beggers!
Well, they have said both engines started ok this morning, though the Starboard engine was a little grumpy and took longer than the Port engine - Col seems to be unphased and just reckons it was fine for a boat that hadn't been run since April!
Oh that feeling of Daja Vu! I wished I had not used the phrase now!! Still, here we are on stranded on a the rather nice island of Amorgos. Weather great, women undressed and beer is cold. One small problem, well two actually! Starboard engine has played up, but the "resident engineer" has, by swapping injectors three from each engine, managed to get starbord engine started. Great I hear you all cry! But no, the port engine which runs fine has now got a UJ problem so we can't run as we would like. So we are sitting in an internet cafe, with a couple of large Amsteels (very cold, as it's [--word removed--] hot!) tapping this missive. I have taken loads of pictures, mainly of the, by now rather "sweaty" engineer in a the engine bay of a Bavaria 330!
Now, if Col's mission in life is to get Whitelighter up and running is not enough, the boat moored alonside us on the quay had a problem last night. Col, without a moments hesitation is down in their bilge sorting out the genny. I personally reckon he just fancied the skipper's wife, who was French, a lawyer and was in good shape!! If he didn't, then I certainly did, so kept her amused while Col played with bits of rubber!!
Well, young Mr Banks has been given a shopping list which includes such items as UJ's, bellows, fuel lift pump and a few other odds and sods.
We have however found the most wonderfull general store here, who without the owners desire to hold more stock than B&Q, Homebase and Alladins Cave put together we would have been up [--word removed--] creek without a paddle! Every time we went in there, asking for a bit of wire, washer, nut, or tool low and behold it was found from within the depths of the shop. Very often from a plastic bag, or had dust blown off it.
This morning, we (well Col) had a problem with a stripped thread on a bleed screw - off down to "Arkwrights" and [--word removed--] me, he has the bits to jury rig a stop gap solution. I have taken pictures of the true Alladins Cave and will post on my return - whenever that might be!!
Despite the onset of problems - and the main reason that when Jez asked me to do the trip I wanted the best engineer I know to come with me, we are now planing on heading for the Greek mainland tomorrow morning, where Whitelighter will be lifted and the UJ changed. How Col does the things he does with such a basic tool kit I'll never know. He has pulled injectors using mole grips and the odd spanner here and there. I was amased that I woke up this morning with any teeth left such was his dexterity with the mole grips.
We now intend to spend the rest of the day admirring the "views" before setting off at first light at a steady pace. Col is going to disconnect the superchargers so that we can run at around 1800 rpm which will allows us to run at a speed that does not mean the chargers are cutting in and out all the time.
Anyway, Col is on the phone to Jez now and I'm going to drink my beer before it goes warm! Pix etc will be posted on my return.
Meanwhile I can think of worse places to be stranded. So untill later wish us luck and feel sorry for Jez, he'll be old before his time /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
The boat itself is great but the niggles are really a pain in the arse. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
