Deionized water?

It will be lower in TDS than tap water, but whether it is as good as Deionised water I do not know. I have a TDS meter and a condenser dryer. If you don't get a definitive answer before I use the dryer next, I will let you know.

Any ph neutral water with low TDS will be fine for that job. Assuming there is nothing in the laundry process that causes a high acidity or alkalinity, I would say go for it. I can also test ph next time too.

I had a look at the water collected from the home tumble dryer, and it appeared to be slightly cloudy. would hesitate to use it. My recommendation for value for money would be to buy a 20l drum of deionised from the motor factor.

It certainly will not be as pure as deionised or distilled water. Without testing a sample in the lab I would not like to say whether it will be suitable or not.

My professional opinion is that it is not worth messing about collecting condensate from alternative sources when you can easily buy deionised water or even buy the antifreeze ready diluted

I used the water from my dehumidifier last time I changed the coolant in my tow engines. It tested well, and was sooooo much better that the tap water I might otherwise have used.

It's distilled rather than de-ionised but the difference is academic in the context of engine coolant or battery topping-up.

It will be perfect for use in either application, as well as in the steam iron which is where most of ours goes. Any fluff in it can easily be filtered out using a funnel and a piece of kitchen roll.

OK, some results.

Water collected from a condensor dryer. Total Dissolved Solids 16ppm, which is very good. Compares to my tap water which is around 350ppm.

Only slight concern was the water was slightly acidic, with a PH of around 6. I would be interested to see what adding the Antifreeze does to this, but considering some of the acids that are flushed through engine cooling systems to clean them, I doubt 6 would be a problem long term.

As an alternate source to shop-bought deionized or distilled water, I would use condensed water, or water from a dehumidifier, without worry, and would certainly use it over water from the tap, which is what I put in all my engines when I was younger
