Help we spent last winter in Le Havre and ruined loads of clothes etc due to damp although we are now in spain i feel it will probably be worth buying a dehumidifier this winter there are 2 possible models either a Delonghi 10 litre @125 euros or an unknown Spanish brand for 99 euros - also 10 litre per day I have no experience of these are they noisey for example ? any help would be gratefuly received ps power is not a problem.

Hi
Recently bought a De'Longhi DEM 10 Dehumidifier which cost approx 145 euros.
It extracts up to 10 litres per day and has a variable humidistat. It also has a continuous drainage option, which is a plus for leaving the boat. This particular model is quite compact and an electronic anti-frost device for lower temperature use (but I dare say that's not too much of a concern where you are). The operation is fairly quiet but as with any of these, you certainly hear a background noise. Prior to buying this model I ran a larger dehumidifer but as with many things, technological advances make for smaller appliances.

As far as not having a dehumifier, the simple answer is, no way - brill things, keep duvets, clothes, cushions and the boat of course nice and dry.

I used a shed sold cheapy and got terrific results I took the tray out at the bottom and discharged a hose pipe from the interior tube, into the sink(sitting it on the work top). It worked all winter and nothing in the boat was damp, in fact we moved straight back in, in the spring and even the bedding was dry. Given that it both worked happily all winter and did its job, discharging into the sink (and that the boat is 41 feet long) I am well happy. Lets hope I get another season fro it? Oh! it was about £70 if I remember correctly

You don't say whether you plan to liveaboard or leave the boat. We run a DeLonghi (can't remember the size but it's too big to be placed on the worksurface and so fills up if you leave it for a couple of weeks). However if we're on board in winter - even for fairly extended periods we don't need the dehumidifier. Our diesel Dickinson heater (and maybe this is too hot for a Spanish winter - don't know as never been lucky enough to try) keeps the whole boat dry - if you have plenty of ventilation it's cosy and other than a couple of cupboards we can't vent easily because they have flapdown fronts we've had no mould or damp.

Oddly enough tho our next door neighbours have a c-cockpit Moody so they can't heat the aft cabin (ours is aft cockpit so the main boat is all in one as it were) and they have had lots of damp problems.

Enjoy Spain !

We are in Spain, get one, we run ours every day during the cooler months, if your living on board just turn it off at night, you wont want it running while your asleep and drying you out any way. Extra bonus this time of year is that they tend to give off a little bit of heat which is nice & dont forget you can put the water in your batteries. We have a Delongi and an old AQP as stand by.

We have a dehumidifier that we were going to sell because we thought we wouldn't need it, but after reading all your replies I have changed my mind. By the way it can get very cold here in the med in winter, last year we had snow here in Ibiza and it was the coldest winter in 30 years.
