Dehler - where do they sit on the quality scale?

I've not got the Dehler 37 CR and am not in the Solent area, so can't help with that.

I've not found the linear gallery inconvenient. You'll have to test the bunk for yourself. It'll probably be OK, although the Dehlers of that era didn't squeeze the accommodation right to the ends, the bunks on mine are generous enough.

There seems to be a Dehler 37 CR for sale on the Dehler owners website, based down in Plymouth.

The CWSes with the two electric winches take most of the difficulty out the concept & I think the 37CR has two. The single winch versions are the ones that acquired the bad reputation.

Do check how stiff the steering is, as the bearings are an issue. Best case is the lower bearing has been replaced with a better material than the original.

Check out the blocks for the lines running under the deck, they were a bit below par and some might have to be replaced. You can reduce friction too with thinner lines.

I guess you've already seen how fast the boats are. If it weren't for a cockpit layout optimised for light-handed cruising I reckon they could be raced pretty well. If you're not already confident of the design try to get out for a test sail in a F6 to see how comfortable they are compared to AWBs. I reckon it's the combination of speed & comfortable motion that is the best feature of the Dehlers of that generation.
