Borgs response to the Defra Public Consultation, which closes at midnight on Sunday 31st, is now available on our website:

http://boatownersresponse.org.uk/Consultation-Submissions.pdf

We chose to make two submissions: one challenging the technical aspect of the MCZ process, and where necessary challenging the data and assumptions.

The other is a more general response which covers the issues being raised by the boating community particularly in the Solent and Studland proposed MCZs

It is an interesting read so far but I hope the final version has been proof read more thoroughly. I genuinely don't mean to be negative but I am reading through the first article, 'BORG General response to DEFRA Public Consultation', and there are quite a few spelling errors which (IMHO) could be said to undermine the professionalism of the report as a whole.

Sent in my personal objection to Orwell and Stour MCZ's from a wildfowling perspective. Anyone with an interest needs to do so before deadline. Lots of support from conservation bodies who are shouting loudest. I am a shooting conservationist who objects as a lot of the estuaries are already protected under RAMSAR and designated SPA and/or SSSI. Time to shout louder than RSPB etc or lose access for ever.

Yes that was a draft, replaced now on the website by the final version. Unfortunately the chap who normally proof reads for me (typing not being my striongest oppointt£) has been quite unwell in the last couple of days.

Excellent... I hoped/thought it might be a draft version. I wasn't trying to be negative BTW... I thought it was a very informative piece of work.

you deserve a large vote of thanks from all boaters----i can see how much work has gone into your response----regards lenten

Its quite a few months since we all sent in our responses to DEFRA. Are you aware of any action or responses from their side?

No, and it is unlikely there will be anything now until September, while they concentrate on the 'first tranche' designations, none of which are likely to affect us.

However do not lose sight of the campaign, there is a clearly stated intention to continue to 'consult with stakeholders' - and that includes us - about the management protocols for the MCZ locations we are concerned about. We must make quite sure this is reality and not just political spin when the time comes.

Thank you all who responded to DEFRA: alongside BORGs campaign, and that of RYA and SBPA, every one adds weight to what we are saying. And clearly Government IS taking notice of what we are all saying.
