Doubt if GPs will stop you grounding on the Brambles unless you're using it in 3D mode to also give you the height of tide, together with a 3D proximity alarm. Tend to use the tidetables & the buoys myself.

Feel suitably reprimanded .. as I do'nt always keep my charts fully corrected! However the point I was trying to make is that in a Pilotage situation, which I would class all of the Solent as, there is rarely a need for a GPS as rather than enter waypoints onto a screen, you might as well just use your eyes. Its not being a luddite, its just a lot easier.
On the other hand I did get a bit confused outside St Vaast early this year when the outer cardinal had been moved from the position on the pilot I was using!! However I did have a waypoint on the wee screen.
