I have recently acquired a 14m yacht which is now in Sicily. Being new the Mediterranean, I have just discovered how mooring prices in many marinas in the Med seem to suddenly jump to fairly astronomical prices during the summer season.

While actively sailing, there is always the choice of finding a free anchorage, but responsibilities call and she may need to be parked for most of the summer.

Does anybody know of any cheap and secure places to moor a yacht in the western Med, especially during summer? Surely there must be some out of the way places that are not considered "highly fashionable".

Many thanks

None in West Med, but several in E Med.

As already pointed out - mainly in Greece.

Ragusa?

Given that the OP's in Sicilly at the moment, perhaps the new/not quite finished marina at Rugusa on Sicilly's south coast would fit the bill?

I've not been there nor do I have any information on it, beyond knowing that some boats overwintered there this last winter and that there are perhaps 8 or 10 heading there from Marmaris for next winter; it's apparently 'safe/secure' and 'about half the price' of anywhere else in that area.

try a boat yard up the ARNO river near PISA. I did it last year for reasonable price - left the boat for 2 months! Its called ARNOVECCHIO (not to be confused with Arnovecchio marina next door)

Mr Orsini is the owner and very helpful - give him an email in advance and he will give a price.

Also, useful because there is a bus stop outside the gate - every half hour to PIS (20 min journey) and then only another 10 min bus ride to the aeroporto!!

(BA to Gatwick) - good prices!! Check ba.com
