Deep Sea Seal versus PSS shaft seal?

I have a similar set up, nauticat 38 motorsailor, ford engine, borg warner velvetdrive and 40mm shaft. I fitted a PSS about 8 or 9 years ago and its been very good I have no regrets. Just be sure to follow the instructions carefully. You can now fit a vent pipe to them and terminate it above the waterline so that you dont have to burp them after launching.

Thanks that's good to know. I am leaning towards the PSS seal.

I dont know much about the PSS seal but I have experience of the deep sea seal. The deep sea seal works well if you have the appropriate shaft configuration. Face seals need good longitudinal control. If they dont get this there is a possiblity of leaks and accelerated wear of the faces. A shaft set up that holds the s/s prop shaft from moving backwards or forwards would work well. We have such a system on our boat and we have never had any water in the bilge. We use a deep sea seal as they need less space than some of the alternative solutions.
