Late last season my trusty Docksiders gave up the ghost and fell to pieces. I succumbed to trendiness and bought a pair of shiny new Musto trainer style high tech deckies.
Now I have worn these new ones a few times the stink is quite oppressive. SWMBO won't let them in the house. I'm worried about leaving them outside as they might run off and attack the local wildlife. What do Musto make the damn things out of? Never had this problem with the old leather ones. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
 
I much prefer the trainer style deck shoes and have worn them for years. My favourites are Sperry but I also have a pair of Harken ones and still have some ancient Gill ones that I use in the boatyard in winter. All are smell free! However I was aware that they might smell so bought some Scholl anti-bacterial spray for shoes (Boots and others sell it) and give them an occasional spray with this inside before putting them on. You might want to try some of this before dumping the shoes!
 
A few years ago I made a conscious effort to always wear socks with my new deckies and never looked back...No more stinky or sweaty feet /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif and no more smelly deck shoes.

I just got the socks that only cover your feet, M&S do them, save having the silly tan marks half way up your leg.
 
We sailed from La Coruna to Camaret during the period that Boscastle was being washed out - 48 hours of constant storms. in view of the conditions we slept in waterproofs, lifejackets and boots.

We arrived in Camaret late afternoon, my other half (who has a very poor sense of smell) took his cheap breathable boots off and promptly complained of a hot electrical type smell. I explained his problem was his boots so he put them and his socks in the cockpit (it was still raining) for some fresh air and a rinse.

An hour or so later the people on the next boat banged on the hull to say it was raining and the boots were outside and were slightly surprised when he explained it was deliberate! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

He still mentions the incident now.
 
I heard it's something to do with goretex and bare feet.

I used to have a pair of Dubarry shoes lined with goretex. They ponged so much that they were banished to the anchor locker when not being worn.

Try putting odour eater inserts in, they have worked for my Puma trainers that I use bare footed.
 
The answer is......Bicarbonate of soda!

Take out the insole. Sprinkle a couple of teaspoons of bicarb in the shoe and distribute it. Replace insole. Add another teaspoon or two. Shake it up. Leave for 24 hours. Empty out the bicarb. No more smell. If it does come bcak in a couple of months or so just repeat. Brilliant and cheap. Enjoy.

As deck shoes they are brilliant. Grip well and comfortable. They just stink to high heaven. The only shoes I've ever had the problem with. I'm just worried they're going to run off into Kent and start attacking the wildlife! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Talking of stalking, were you at MYC the other week on a boat from Brightlingsea? If you weren't then there is some other poor soul that looks just like you

No, it wasn't me at MYC, you saw me last time I was there about 18 months ago.

I will be in Brightlingsea at least once this season though, yummy Indian at the Kovalam.

I do pity the poor sod who has to carry around my spare fizzog though.
 
I always thought one of you was quite enough.
"Sartorially challenged" doesn't really do it justice, although shorts and wellies just about sums it up. And those wellies didn't stink!
