Deck repair conundrum

I have a small patch of GRP side deck about the size of an old 50p which is cracked. The Gelcoat is lifting off and revealing some fibreglass strands (looks like CSM) underneath. It looks like an old repair when a deck filler (water perhaps) was moved to the other side.

Anyway, assuming there is a hole that goes through the cored deck that needs filling….

I was contemplating a thickened epoxy filler sanded down to deck level and covered in freshly applied Interdeck to match the rest of the side deck.

My question is would Interdeck be a sufficient UV barrier to save the epoxy filler underneath or should I be exploring other resins….polyester for example….as this is a deck repair facing the sun?

I’m sure paint will be fine (i.e. offer full UV protection) - it certainly never occurred to me it wouldn’t. Epoxy can even be varnished to protect from UV, after all. Equally, for a small repair, polyester would also be fine. Maybe consider adding a few layers of glass to prevent the patch cracking/lifting again - or add some chopped strands to your filler mix.

Perhaps check underneath for a previous cause of damage. Maybe it was never repaired properly before. West epoxy have downloadable step be step manuals for many types of GRP repairs.

The West Epoxy manuals are very good.

Section 5 might be relevant to the OP'sproblem

A quick look reveals West System suggest using 105…..predictably. I wonder if epoxy was used first time round. Thanks for the link.
