Hi All,

I'm looking for a nice shade of deck paint for a Centaur (white hull) - ideally either a gray or a blueish gray. All paints ever purchased before on the blue spectrum always turned out to be a rather too bright sky blue colour despite the sample on the outside of the tin suggesting something much more grey.

I think the last one we tried was a Blakes paint and seemed to be the only feasible colour available, but again was much too bright.

Suggested solution: forumites who have recently painted decks and liked the colour, could you post a picture and say what sort of paint it was?

Thanks!

I like pale blue decks.

For years I used Blakes 809 non-skid paint and I was very happy with that. Then Blakes stopped making it!

I switched to the nearest match I could find, Interdeck 339 and was happy with that until 2013 when, guess what? International stopped making it.!

Now I'm using Hempel 33390 Light Blue, which isn't a bad colour but it has to have anti-slip pearls added to it which means more labour and mess and potential for accidents.

No doubt Hempel, in their infinitesmal wisdom, will withdraw that before long and then the search will begin again.

International Inter-Deck Squall Blue is fairly close to Westerly Blue. They used to do Blue-Grey which may be a bit closer, if you can't find it I think you could get there with a mix of Squall Blue and Grey in equal proportions. Here's my old boat with blue-grey.

Our deck was light blue... I hated it. During the refit I went with Hempel light grey and the non-slip picked out with interdeck darker grey.

They are experts in paint especially in terminating paint colours :(
my decks are 339

I used Interdeck 923 on my temporary boat last year but found it a bit too bright blue. Having some left over I mixed some Interdeck white with it to pale it down a bit to try and get near the Westerly pale blue. I matched it to the old paint exactly when it was wet but it dried slightly bluer. Still, it looks nice though. I believe the recommendation from International was to mix their grey Interdeck with 923 in a ratio of 4 to 1 to get the discontinued pale blue. If you Google it then you might get some leads. I believe the Westerly Owners Forum has threads on this subject.

so that 5 tins to buy then :disgust:

International grey mixed 50:50 with white, and extra non-slip worked for me.
Straight grey was too hot to stand on barefoot.
