Been thinking for some time about whether to re-power my Sunfury with twin diesels or trade boat in for something else - Decision has been made for me! Starboard engine seized up on Sunday so, it has to be the re-power option. Have been quoted great price for a pair of Volvo D3 160/SX - any comments?

They are very good by all accounts, but how does the price compare to a pair of Merc 120's?

Or how about converting to single and slamming in a big Yanmar?

Just been talking to Mermaid down at the Seawork Exhibition - Quoted me a good price on their Steyr 256's, more competitive than Volvos' an prob'ly a better engine [ another 90hp helps of course!].

Sorry to hear that Barry - did you look at getting a price on a pair of Yamaha 370's with Hydra Drive legs! Great engine and the drives are silky smooth!

Hiya - price for two new engines at 160hp each was around £16,000 + VAT AFTER an allowance of £6000 for my existing AQ151a's.

Have seen your boat around (remember the name), but can't think where. Maybe I looked at it before you bought it. have always been a big fan of the Sealine 285 - used to have one!

Would love to come & see yours sometime - where do you keep it?

Yes mate - BBMS Marine - Bill Brown in Eastlands Boat Yard. He's the guy that did mine. The drive is magic, none of this clutch banging rubbish - goes streight in without a clunk. I'd never touch Volvo or Mercs again after having had Yamaha!

Ha, just beat me to it, was just about to suggest a trip to Jersey /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

A mate of mine had a day trip to StP on the ferry last week, as a publican he complained bitterly about not being able to find a decent pint of bitter. I of course commiserated.

A pair of 6cyl Steyr 256's [250hp at 322kg] ready to go on to Volvo 290 drives were coming out at approx £18,400 + VAT [they will deliver to the C.I.'s]. if you need new drives they have a deal with mercruiser and can supply them with Bravos'.

Have a look at http://www.steyr-motors.com/products/pdf/256_E.pdf - you can contact them at engines@mermaid-marine.co.uk or 01202 891824. speak to Cyril or Stephen.

Fraid I can't afford a pair this week, still there's always next.
