For this country I use xcweather.co.uk which work very well. Does anyone know an equivelant that works for Western France?

I have a need to know the expected wind direction for next week!

Many thanks

Brian

yes xcweather just click on the french flag on the top left hand side to change to french charts. you could try magic seaweed.

I always find Windguru very useful. Here's Les Sables d'Olonne for example.

For where I am (Leucate), I find Windguru pretty much wrong pretty much most of the time.

Windfinder is a little better. Unfortunately the best is to call up what they call a surtaxed number for Meteo France.

However, Leucate may be a bit particular......

I also find meteo France useful - they have a website you know.

But you getter a better more local forecast if you call the surtaxed number - at least my experience so far.

Not sure about xcweather for French and UK for that matter. Tends to be a bit optimistic for my liking.

Fr'instance on Sat xcw gave east 10-12knots across the channel and in the event we had east/north east 14 to 24. Admittedly, there was a fast moving front coming through but compared with the shipping forecast for Wight which gave e/ne 4-5 occ 6 for the same period, I'll be a little more cautious of xcweather in future.

Converted to UGRIB this season - has been pretty reliable so far.

Wasn't on Saturday on the Gironde. I downloaded charts on Friday night and Saturday morning before racing and got my fingers burnt (literally when some wkr didn't cleat in the spi halyard when I yanked it up from the mast) with the predicted 3-4 when it was 5 with squalls. Direction was spot on though.
