Hi all!

I'm planing to go to Norway with my girlfriend for the new year's eve and spend the whole week there (maybe between Oslo and Bergen).
Besides snowboarding and chilling around and since I sail my 37ft boat on a daily basis here in Lisbon (even on the winter), I would definitely love to sail in Norway!
Is it possible to sail in Oslo and/or Bergen fjords during December/January? How is the water and the winds?

Anyone, from the sailing community, interested in spending some time sailing with both of us? We'll be glad to sail with you on our boat when you come to visit Lisbon!

Kindest regards!

Dark, cold, most likely the fjord is frozen. BERGEN would not be frozen but do not underestimate the cold... If you have any wind it will feel like -20c or -30c or more... Can it be done? Yes. Is it pleasant? no. It is dangerous? yes...

Fyi i kept my boat in Norway for 4 years and lived onboard for one winter only...

Daylight hours will be your main limiting factor. Bergen has about 6 hours daylight at the time you're speaking of, and as the sun will be low on the horizon, it will be even more restricted by hils and mountains.

Currently living/working in Stavanger.

Don’t recall seeing the sea freeze here last winter- it is too salty and windy for that- it used to freeze most winters in Copenhagen (fresher and less windy).

Last winter was dark and freezing cold. The horizontal snow only gets going in January though.
Easily minus numbers every day without wind chill factors.

The locals all take their boats out and barely go outside if they don’t have to.
Not a top idea

The water does freeze in Oslo but then it is a long way from the sea. Stavanger and Bergen are positively coastal compared with Oslo.

Hehehe

Seems pretty "nasty" conditions for a guy from a south country! Even knowing I'm adventurous, used to be offshore and on the snow for winter sports, I recognize there is a possibility of get into something I'm not prepared to :-)

Anyway I'll keep an eye on the offers when I'll there.

Thank you all!

The area north of Bergen in summer is gorgeous. In winter in Bergen it rains; every day.

Don't do it.
Only on the days it doesn’t snow.....

My abiding memories of the Bergman/Voss area at that time of year is cold, cutting winds, snow, very short days and it’s cold. Spent a couple of winters in the area doing artic warfare training. Remember unloading a ferry at Granvin, well up the Hardangerfjord, one night when we’d just started the job and a blizzard arrived. We got the foot passengers away by train to Voss but the vehicle drivers had to camp in their vehicles for 36 hours until the roads could be cleared for them to leave the fjord.
Go sailing there at that time of year? You cannot be serious!
