Decathlon UK discontinuing sailing lines?

I’ve called into the Sheffield and Leeds branches this week while passing. Neither have any Tribord or other sailing gear out.
Presuming that it’s a seasonal thing while the Ski wear is out, I asked an assistant when they expected it back on the shelves, to be told it’s all a closed line.
It wouldn’t be the first time an assistant had the wrong end of the stick, but has anyone else noticed the sailing dept disappearing?

That would be a shame. It's good kit for the price.

Seems quite regional, both in the UK and France. You get more sailing gear near the coast and popular sailing locations.

Both Sheffield and Leeds used to carry sailing stock, but admittedly not as much as some French coastal stores I’ve been in. The shop assistant said they had closed the sailing line, maybe he meant just in Leeds.

I’m pretty confident decathlon / tribord sponsor some serious open 40 type sailors/boats - I’d be very suprised if they pulled out entirely. Probably more likely not being stocked in store.

Their delivery service is pretty good. When I bought my stuff I just bought a couple of sizes to be picked up in store on my CC. Took away the stuff that fitted and got a straight refund for the others.

Their kit is very good indeed fwiw!

Went into lakeside decathlon and asked why they only seemed to stock clothing and fishing gear and very little of the wider sporting selection. He said the local clients only seem to buy 'sports direct' type stuff at that store. So it seems location specific.

Loads of sailing stuff in our nearest store in Vannes. Including a blow up sailing dinghy

I see small fleets of those on the Charente at Saintes.
I assume our Decathlon still stocks saily stuff, as a lot goes on about here.

I imagine the French stores are carrying on the sailing lines in the home country.

The store at Port Solent still had jackets and salopettes a couple of weeks ago. It might be down to the individual store manager?

They stock what sells. Im some stores it's more land-based and river-based sports, and in others it's more shore-based and sea-based.

They will have detailed sales figures of each individual item, by store, date and time of day.
More people do canoe and kayak boating than sailing. And possibly sailing types tend to buy at sailing chandleries and online, not in general sports shops. But either way, the store managers (local and HQ) will know what sells and where very accurately.

They will know what stock has sold in the past. Hopefully, they don't do the idiotic "We don't stock it because there's no demand but you're the 4th person asking for it this week".

If they stocked the stuff previously they will know how fast it sold. And hopefully avoided the equally barmy outcome of finally shifting the last of an unpopular line and the computer sending another
In fact the OP can see that Decathlon have not exited the sailing market by looking at their online site - https://www.decathlon.co.uk/sports/sailing
And the stock holding team will be able to tell how often people order such items for click and collect at these specific stores, or order delivery to these post code areas.

I visit coastal Spain regularly, and shop in Decathlon. Sailing gear is seasonal even there, but they do carry a bigger stock of sailing clothes, shoes, hardware and boats/Boards than my Edinburgh store. They even have a big selection of hunting/fishing clothes that are great value. I usually try on stuff in Spain then wait for seasonal web sales in UK.
