Debit Card Abroad, Tell Your Bank

Re: Liverpool Victoria Card

James, do you have anyone in the UK you can use as a ‘catchment address’?

I understand that; providing you have a UK address for the statements etc. to be posted to, it is OK to keep such accounts open, even if you spend a ‘proportion’ of your time outside of the UK.

BTW. Andy – aka ‘Pickled Pig’, we have never been charged any premium, anywhere in the world for using a Nationwide card in ATM’s or for our PIN-Card purchases (certainly in the last five years) indeed we get the very best exchange rate (for the day of the transaction). So I would be interested to know if your statement is new policy for them?

Re: Liverpool Victoria Card

Hi Colin, no they made it very clear that they did not want us to keep our card. When I phoned them they said that they would be checking the electoral roll at the address we would give them and if we were not on the list that would be the end of our account. We had their card for several years and paid by direct debit, so I guess they didn't make enough money from us. The notice they gave was about 2 weeks, so I was not very impressed with their way of conducting their business.

I used my Coop Visa card in Calais to pay for a meal. They blocked the card. On return I rang them to complain. Yes, they tried to ring me at home, but there was no reply /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif yes - I was in Calais
