Got a week away next week on the boat and planning a trip up the Deben. Been to Ramsholt before but no further. I believe the Rocks is a pleasant anchorage? We may get as far as Woodbridge itself and I'm wondering about stopping at Waldringfield. What's the collective advice on anchoring or picking up a mooring at Waldringfield? I assuming also holding is generally good within the river but any advice gratefully received.

Nice little routine by the boatyard at Waldringfield - give them a ring to reserve a mooring (£15 I'm 10mtrs)- they give you the buoy number and leave a hard dinghy with oars on the mooring for you to go ashore - walk or visit the pub. Nice not to have to scratch around for a mooring.

Woodbridge is a nice town to visit and victual. - always good to have a mooch round the yard there at boats for sale. The marina at Tidemill also good to visit although there have been reports of reduced "facilities" due to Covid - sure someone will update. Last time I went up was several years ago in boat with 1.2mtrs draft - up with the second half of the flood and picked up a waiting buoy outside the entrance for enough water to cross the sill.

Lovely river the Deben - enjoy.

We were in the Tidemill the other day and it was fine, and friendly. The main loos and showers are shut but the external ones met with madam's approval. The ice creams by the station are excellent. The Rocks is a lovely spot but the local speedboats have taken to coming through at speed. The beach used to be a good place for fossils but erosion has altered it somewhat.

The Tidemill is not hard to visit, though some of the buoys can be hard to see when the dinghies are racing. We usually book ahead and radio in when we are nearly there. If you are early there are waiting buoys outside. The sill, like Tollesbury, is solid and doesn't like being argued with but the gauge is easy to see.

Great tip on the dinghy, that will save some footpump effort in this heat

Hadn't picked up on the buoys (no pun intended) for waiting, that may come in handy. thanks for the info

The Deben is a great river & the Rocks is a lovely place to anchor - you may be lucky during the week but there were about 30 boats there by Saturday lunch time, so pretty crowded!!

If you want to stay afloat a mooring just above Methersgate Quay is nice and Dinghy up to town....Or the quay along side the tide mill if shallow draft. Turn left at the big post and keep straight....

Thanks for all the advice and options, spoken to the boatyard at Waldringfield so hoping to pick up a mooring there on Sunday

The harbour master at Waldringfiled is also very helpful, easiest to call on his mobile. Also, many anchor just above the laid moorings at Waldringfield, the dinghy travel time to shore is not much greater than many of the visitor buoys but you will need to do a spot of inflating.

Has any one got the mbl number for the harbour master at Waldeingfiled as we are looking to up Deben at bank holiday normally stop at Ramsholt but would be nice to go if further for the night

Fairway and Harbour Master Waldringfield Fairway & Moorings Waldringfield Boatyard has a limited number of visitors moorings and can be contacted on 01473 736260. In addition the Harbourmaster will always do his best to accommodate visiting yachts that require a mooring.

A bit of local knowledge - if you can get through Loder’s Cut (avoiding Troublesome Reach) you can get over the Tide Mill cill.
That is fine when you have just come out of the Tidemill, coming the other way you don’t know if you can get over the cill until you get there.?
