Further to the original post re the Deben entrance, as promised here is a pic from 1956 edition of East Coast Rivers showing what the metes, or leading marks, looked liked in those days. Also a pic from the 1993 edition (mentioned in the original thread) showing the Paglesham-based Folkboat William Blyth leaving the river with the metes aligned behind. (Nice to hear from you John Q. Can you remember whether Jack took that photo or whether it was one of mine or Judy's?)
