Haven't posted for a while, mainly due to corporate firewall classing Scuttlebutt as undesirable chat & barring me - however, home connection now working again so back on-line...

Launched 'Morzen' on Monday this last week & took a first trip down the Deben & out to sea on Friday. The depth over the bar has reduced considerably over the winter though.

Based on my soundings about an hour after HW I'd say the depth is now no more than 0.5M at LAT and the shallows have extended well to seaward before shelving down rapidly.

Comings & goings will be even more restricted this season unless I've missed a channel somewhere - definitely worth close inspection on foot at LW before attempting again!

Thanks; it was heading that way towards the end of last season, with the bar shoaling and extending further towards the offing buoy.

Here we go again...I suspect the MP (for Lowestoft, from memory, anyone know?) who thinks that aggregate dredging is to blame is onto something.

That would explain a lot - why both depth sounders on Crystal dropped to nothing whilst going out over the bar last time, an hour before HW. Presumably there's lots of shingle and debris in the water to confuse the transducers.

Did absolutely no good for my blood pressure.

Presumably they'll move the buoys at some point soon...?
