Crossing the Deben Bar has always been a source of concern, even to locals, particularly at the start of a new season. This year I had an unusually stressful crossing immediately after launching when the actual depth of water turned out to be 0.7 metres less than I had predicted leaving a clearance of only 0.4 metres on quite a bumpy day.

My video of the original crossing is at https://youtube.com/watch?v=Pj9-E5p3hj4
However, readers may find the video of my investigation as to what went wrong more interesting, particularly if they have any intention of visiting the Deben this season.

Very interesting the Deben and Alde entrances were always interesting and focused ones attention. Perhaps the thread would be better located on the East Coast forum.:encouragement:

He had already posted on the East Coast forum. Perhaps felt it might be of interest to Southern sailors as the holiday season approaches.

Despite spending a lot of my childhood in and on the Orwell and East coast when I eventually moved the boat there from the South West I found the sailing quite disappointing and if I hadn't been forced into retirement would have moved back to the South West.
