The sketch maps for the Deben and Ore Entrance are now available on east coast rivers site.

I went for a look see, from up river, at low tide on Saturday (0.78m)
The depths on the sketch seem to match what I found.
I did not go out to the West Knoll buoy as there was braking waves right across that area.

You need to be within 2 boat lengths of the Green Mid Knoll buoy for the deepest water in that area.
I found to bottom in 1m about 6 boat lenghts SW of the buoy on the way back in. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The stone banks are much lower this year so an entrance with any East in the wind will be some what rolly.

The deepest water by Felixstowe ferry and Martello tower U is within a boat length of the beach.
You still need to turn out to leave the red Deben buoy to port.
Don't leave turning out to late on a flood tide as the stream will push you though at 2 to 3 knots.

Sorry chaps I believe that you are correct.
The download is for 2008 but the photo is labeled 2007.
I believe that the chart is o.k.

Right

I have done some more research (In my lunch break Roger /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)
The Jan08 Sketch map shows the buoys in their correct locations but the charted depths are from the 2007 survey.

we're just awaiting Trinity House approval of the Survey but I can confirm that the shallowest
area on a transit line between Mid Knoll and West Knoll is 0.58m below LAT
I can confirm there hasn't been much change from last year other than the Knolls moving further South.

Should you not be out butchering some wood? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Or are you still waiting for the leg plumbing to self heal?

Good to see you as we passed on Sunday

For the benefit of any visitors to the Deben, having been in & out a few times over the past month, my experience has been:

Least water (the Bar) is now well inside the W Knolls (R) - around 40-50m in by my estimate

When you are abreast of W Knolls (R) you are still in deep water now, so approach it with confidence!

Least water on the Bar is roughly 3.2m LESS than you will find right next to W Knolls (R).

I reckon that the depth on the Bar is now around 0.6m below LAT (borne out by the forthcoming survey from eastcoastrivers.com) - last year was more like 0.2m

DO NOT stray off to starboard on the way in - there is a new drying knoll on that side just inshore of W Knolls (R) (i.e. off to stbd of the Bar) - stick to the line in to Mid Knolls (G) and you'll have no problems

Whilst the course in between the buoys is deeper it's narrower, so stick to the line to Mid Knolls (G) (lots of water there) and once inside it aim for the Deben (R) buoy off Felixstowe Ferry or err on the beach side of the line where there is loads of water. The water does some alarming looking things between Mid Knolls & Deben but ignore it - just the effect of 2 opposite streams meeting & boiling around - no hazards.

The bottom shelves gently down once you're over the Bar itself, so once past this point you can relax as long as you're on the line - no further nasties!

Overall its a straightforward entry this year.
