When do the Deben and Ore entrances normally get surveyed, and the buoys laid? We had a vague plan to go into one or the other at Easter as the tides are conveniently timed, but with no 2015 chartlet posted yet in the usual places it looks as though the buoys won't be in place by then?

Trinity House usually commission the surveys in March/April, so buoys in during April, all being well. Chartlets should be up on our site within a few days of Imrays receiving the data from Trinity House.
I'll see if I can find out about the surveys.

John White from Felixstowe Ferry tells me that the Deben entrance was surveyed by TH earlier this week and he is waiting to see the results before adjusting the Deben buoys. He says they will only need moving "a little bit" as the entrance is much the same as it was last year.

However, the Ore entrance has changed quite a bit (see my photos of LW at Shingle Street in an earlier post this week). It looks as if the entrance will be further to the north because a new lagoon with shingle banks around has formed, extending along the shore north of the bungalow and well out to seaward.
From what I saw on Monday morning, I would not want to come in, or out of the river without first seeing the results of the survey, and I would prefer to wait until the seasonal buoys have been laid.
John White is not sure whether TH have done the Ore survey yet but he thinks the buoys should be laid by Easter.
Perhaps Cantata has more news on this?

I spoke to John as well this morning, Jan, so I don't know any more than you do.
What happens next is that Trinity House will analyse the survey data and agree buoy placement with John. Imrays should be able to produce the chartlets at around the same time.

We went into the Deben two weekends ago (2m draft). No change from last year apart from a nod from the asst harbourmaster to leave the starboard buoy properly to starboard as a small knoll may have formed near it...

No issues in or out.

It may require more than just the two buoys.
