A fictional book written by Marsali Taylor in 2018. Features sailing in a fully rigged ship from Norway to Shetland as well as two handed crossing the Atlantic in an Elizabethan 30. And teaching a three year old to helm a dinghy. About three quarters of the way through someone is murdered and in the last chapter our heroine and her boyfriend a policeman discover the murderer is not who they thought. A few factual inaccuracies but a good read for sailors. I enjoyed the bits about the tall ship as told by our heroine the second officer.

Yes, I enjoy this series of books. Marsali lives in Shetland and is an experienced sailor & a regular sailing columnist, so the stories have a ring of authenticity.

I think that this is the complete list

Taylor, Marsali. The Shetland Mysteries.
1. Death on a Longship
2. The Trowie Mound Murders
3. A handful of Ash
4. The body in the bracken
5. Ghosts of the Vikings
6. Death in Shetland waters
7. Death on a Shetland Isle
8. Death from a Shetland cliff
9. The Shetland sea murders
10. A Shetland winter mystery
11. Death in a Shetland Lane

Clearly Shetland is a dangerous place - all these murders. And those in the TV series as well.

Oddly didn’t feel that dangerous when I was there earlier this year, seemed very friendly :)
Safer than Midsomer anyway!

It's not the murders that are unrealistic, it's the pleasant sailing at night in the winter!
