This thread follows one from about 2005 about a Herd and Mackenzie beached and dying in Penryn, and with great regret I bring you the story of another. My avatar shows me in the wheelhouse of Andrea Ferrara (built 1973 or 4, formerly Moss Rose, formerly Marandi) the picture circa 1989. Occasionally I do google searches on my old boats and always wondered where Andrea Ferrara had got to, the best and most loved of any of the many boats. My wider family all mourned her passing, we had good times aboard. I am saddened, also angry about how anyone could ABANDON a boat like this, sell her for a quid, but just to walk away.... She had a reputation in Mallorca, they called her the ghost ship, and one day she wasn't there anymore. I wish I had known....

Last year she was discovered.

John - I think you posted this a while back?

I recently heard that my old Huntsman 28 is left unused and looking sad. 14 years I kept that boat, for someone to not pay mooring fees and lose her to a debt.

I watched two boats in Langstone basically rot due to debts and its crying shame.

One was a Waterwitch .... and other was a 26ft that was similar to the Snapdragon ... both just hauled up a side creek and left. I approached both 'owners' but they ignored all requests to help save.

You may be right, I am very old! Sad about the Huntsman, I also owned an immaculate old RNLI boat Baltic Air (ex RNLB Baltic Exchange), last seen sad and drab and unloved in Blyth. Have tried and failed to get info.

I personally hate to see boats just left unloved and worst case abandoned. In a lot of situations these ignored boats still cost the owners a hefty annual sum in moorings costs etc. I've always been of the attitude, that if my interest in keeping the boat looking good and maintained fades, then its time to sell and let someone else take over.

Ouch. That's got to hurt.

Blimey that is sad
Saw an old boat of mine advertised on fleebay last year
Looking like a 'Hulk'
Spent 3 years doing Her up from stem to stern
Tempted to buy Her but not got the energy or facilities to repeat the Job!

Hey milltech, what size was/is She, looks a big un?

I remember Moss Rose ex Marandi. I had another Herd and Mackenzie built 60 footer, but mine was built for fishing in 38-39. She was requisitioned, and worked throughout the war at Scapa, then fished for some years out of Buckie, Wick, and Peterhead. I bought her in '73, and spent the next 4-5 years converting her into a yacht, with which we cruised in Scottish waters for nearly 30 years. The last I heard, she was somewhere in Cornwall.

I recall heading out to St Kilda with Moss Rose, probably in '84, with each giving the other moral support. I very sorry to learn of her loss.

Memory fades, 63 feet x 19 feet, about 70 tons.

If she was then Moss Rose then you would have been in company with Dennis Faulkner, he insisted I change the name which is how she became "Andrea Ferrara", (for the uninitiated the name of a much valued Scottish broadsword back in the day).
