Death in Chichester Harbour

It sure is - I was out on Thursday and heard a pan-medico to Solent Coastguard and that mentioned a guy who had had his head cut from a prop and that he was unconscious... they sent a helo - I wonder if that was the same event... very sad.. :(

Truly devastating for all involved. strange thing is the reports all seems to be saying Friday, however Sunday we heard all this going on the VHF Ch16 with Solent CG... same situation, 3 people in the water, then one with head injury caused by prop, helicoptered off etc... so unless there were indeed 2 incidents same place and same scenario it was certainly Sunday...not Friday as reported... strange.

I assumed that had anyone else been at the helm, the boat would not have run back over him.

Common sense really!

The person killed was a friend of my family, I have not heard the full facts as obviously so his parents are too upset to talk, but understand He was sitting on the back of the boat.

Will update when know more

So, was anyone else on the boat?

Presumably if there had been, they would have been arrested on possible manslaughter charges, as usually happens in car accidents.

The article reads...
A 21-year-old was killed after he fell from a boat and was hit by its propeller.

The accident was witnessed by the victim’s two friends, who were in the rigid dinghy with him.

The man, who has not been named but is from Sussex, died in a London hospital on Sunday.

His death and the circumstances surrounding it are now being investigated by Sussex Police and the Health and Safety Executive....

It doesn't necessarily mean they were in anyway responsible as accidents do happen - a momentary lack of concentration is all it can take. If they were in the harbour then presumably they were not moving fast and therefore he could have hit his head as he fell rather than being hit by a boat returning. It doesn't really pay to make assumptions without being in possession of the facts.

Whatever the circumstances a young lad has tragically lost his life and left a massive hole in the lives of those nearest and dearest. Assigning blame isn't going to fix that.

Deepest sympathy to all concerned. :(
