hi,
a friend of mine is looking for 4(or better 6) deadeys for his gaff rigged boat.
any ideas who makes/sells them?

he contacted TS rigging, but the price seemed to be a bit over the top ( smth like 50 quid per piece)

any suggestions welcome and much appreciated.

They are probably the cheapest

But you could also try Colin Frake at Faversham, Classic Marine at Woodbridge, or Spencer Thetis Wharf at Cowes. This is in approximate order of increasing expense.

There actually is quite a bit of work in making a deadeye (and its strap, if it is a lower deadeye) but the other approach is to get a friend with a wood turning lathe to make you a set. It is not necessary to use lignum vitae; elm is perfectly good. Remember that the inboard end of the left hand (looking from inboard) hole of the upper deadeye is not rounded off because that is where the Mathew Walker goes.
