There is a dead whale floating around in the solent at the moment (was just between the forts at high tide today) Easy to find by all the fishermen crowding round it (or by following the smell)

Bet there are some tall tales being told about the one that got away!

Surprised that something isnt being done to get rid of it, cause at night it is a real danger to shipping.

In that case, you had better invest in a wholesale supply of right guard, cause it had a distinctive smell. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

When I went past it, it's stomach was really swelling up. Reminded me of that whale in japan that exploded it's guts all over a high street. Kept a safe distance after that thought.

A few years back there was a dead whale washed up on the beach on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. We were staying in our caravan there at the time and so I went along for a nose. Boy did it smell!
When the tide went out the council got a JCB and a couple of grab lorries on the beach and disposed of it. I didn't stay around long but I heard tell of chainsaws being used.

Nav warning cancelled. Carcase beached at Lee on Solent.

Feel sorry for local residents. State issue gas masks.....

Anyone got a link to that video of someone attempting to blow up a whale carcase?

Perhaps the most satisying sights I ever saw followed the beaching of a big, very big, basking shark on the beach at Girvan on the Clyde coast.
I wandered down to see a bunch of louts throwing rocks at the carcass and generally being twats.
A couple of them climbed onto the side of the beast and were using it as a trampoline when... you've guessed it... it split open with a pop.
In goes one of the yobs, up to the oxters in livers, guts and other unmentionables.
I've never laughed so much.

Does anyone know where this ended up? Was sailing past Gilkicker (?sp) late last night which is where it was last Sunday and wondrered where it ended up. Has anyone hit a whale - what does it feel like?
